The Spooky Writing Season has Begun

The Spooky Writing Season has Begun

After finishing the previous chapter of my next novel, I had the thought of looking for the chapter themed around Halloween. To my surprise I went back to see that I had started, but not finished it. So I will be working on that wonderfully around the Halloween season. I promise I didn't plan that, but maybe I subconsciously did. The spooky season isn't just great for writing, one day before Halloween is my birthday, so I have a strong affinity for this time of year.

In the Halloween chapter of the novel, one of the main characters is a girl that appears young, but is actually 150 years. Because she hasn't actually been trick or treating before, it’ll be really fun to see through her perspective. When she was first alive in the United States the holiday didn't exist, so having her react to all these weird kids in costumes is going to be a lot of fun.

I've also been thinking about other book signings or events where one could sell a book. A lot of these types of events are going to be around the winter holiday season, but I haven't heard many happening in the fall. I'm always looking for places to sell my wares. If any of my readers know of any places please let me know at my email address, kurtless64@gmail.com

My next novel, code named Ghost Boyd, is very episodic and I'm hoping to do well with this take on storytelling in book form. I haven't written in this unique style to this extent before. What I mean by that is, there are large time frame jumps sometimes, depending on what chapter you're reading and each chapter is in itself a self-contained story. I'm trying to think of how I can make these littler stories connect to a much large story in such a way that feels complete and impressive.

Other writing projects I've written these last couple weeks revolve around video games. Like I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m taking a survey of games class and every week I get to write about a game that I'm playing from a list that they usually provide. One that I wrote about in these last two weeks was a Super Nintendo game titled Pilot Wings. If you're interested in the history of 3D graphics for consoles I recommend checking it out here. I also have written a retro review for one my favorite games of all time, Shadow of the Colossus, found here. When it comes to reading any of my previous gaming posts blog or newsletters, you can find them at my official website Kurtless.com

Recently I’ve been playing this really great Halloween themed game called Costume Quest by Double Fine. I started it a while ago, but never finished it. For a family-friendly fun Halloween game that is single player, I would definitely recommend it. You're basically a kid on Halloween night that needs to trick or treat around the neighborhood while also saving your brother or sister from some evil Halloween monsters. You go from your neighborhood, to a mall, and then to country town. Fighting occurs in turn based battles. You transform into whatever costume you’re wearing.

I like to play spooky themed games around Halloween time, and this is definitely going to be one I go back to. There is a sequel to the game that I will play eventually, but I'm currently on the first game’s DLC, Grubbins on Ice. I am also trying to have a Halloween themed author group meeting. We are trying to find a place that is supposedly haunted nearby. If we have any spooky experiences I’ll let y'all know. But until next time, have a wonderful next two weeks! You can always contact me by looking up my contact information placed on my website in the far left corner, happy haunting!
