Majora’s Mask Fan Creates 4K Textures for 3DS Game
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask for 3DS has a fresh new 4k look, all thanks to fan and patreon creator Henriko Magnifico. Everything from the character models to the brick and grass textures have been reworked in 4K. The continuing texture project has reached a new milestone, with a recent email from the creator reaching patch 2.0 reporting to have 300 new 4k textures on top of what Henriko already has uprezed to the 2015 3DS remake of the 2000 N64 classic. One look at Henriko’s screenshots, and the critically acclaimed 3DS port looks to be muddy in comparison.
But you won’t find this texture pack available or playable on Nintendo’s original 3DS hardware. Interested parties will have to rip their own rom of the game and play it with 3DS emulators, which are available on a multiple of platforms, including PC and Steamdeck. In the same update email Henriko’s mentions a forewarning, that “all 3DS texture packs will no longer include emulators. You will need to provide your own emulator from this point onward”. This is most likely due to Nintendo’s recent crackdown on users playing the company’s classic and new titles for free on programs such as the infamous Nintendo Switch emulator Yuzu, which Nintendo shutdown further development on this year.
With a whopping 2,714 paid patreon followers, Henriko has no plans of slowing down despite Nintendo’s leering eyes to those making money off its IP. The creator has produced texture packs for many other beloved Nintendo classics such as the 3DS version of
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time,
and non 3DS titles like, Twilight Princess, A Link Between Worlds, Skyward Sword, Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion, amongst a myriad of other titles. Whatever the outcome of Henriko’s future Patreon work, other fans worldwide have a lot to experience and enjoy in Henriko’s recent Majora’s Mask texture pack update.
